We are a friendly, easy-going group of people who love rowing! The Grateful Oars Rowing Club is a member of the United States Rowing Association. The Grateful Oars have been "sweeping" Norwood Lake in northern New York since 1997. We house our shells in the Greg Lewis Boathouse, which we share with Clarkson University Crew. The boathouse is located near the Norwood Recreation Pavilion at 28 Maple Street in Norwood, New York. The club's members row an "eight," four "fours," a "pair," and two singles, rowing for fun and fitness. Some of the members also enjoy racing in area regattas and head races! The club has scheduled rows most days of the week during the rowing season.
Our season begins when the weather permits, typically in mid-to-late April for eager rowers and mid-to-late May for everyone else. The end of the season is often dictated by the decrease in available light as the days grow shorter. Morning crews often row well into November or until such time as temperatures become uncomfortably cool.
Most crews row once each week at a set day and time. Individual club members may row on more than one crew and often substitute for one another when a rower must be absent. We welcome new rowers! more…
